What’s in the 25.05 Wind River Studio Developer Release

Wind River® Studio Developer 25.05 (WRSD 25.05) delivers capabilities that help teams developing embedded software to accelerate time-to-market with high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions. This release builds on the momentum of prior updates and advances three strategic priorities:

  • Enterprise-grade hardening
  • Modular, scalable testing and automation
  • Faster setup

ENTERPRISE-GRADE HARDENING

As development teams grow, even minor infrastructure inefficiencies can have outsized impact. The 25.05 release introduces features that address performance bottlenecks and security friction, helping development teams work more efficiently and confidently.

Runtime performance under load is improved in Studio Developer, with reliability and stability enhancements across core services. These improvements help reduce slowdowns during peak use and provide a more consistent experience across teams. This means fewer errors and faster execution when users interact with Studio Developer.

Identity and access management (IAM) role integration replaces shared elevated-privilege access with temporary, role-based access to support secure and scalable access management. These changes eliminate the need for user account key rotation and address the risk of long-lived and misconfigured user level permissions.

Build system modernization capabilities make scalability better for embedded development by unifying legacy Wind River Linux and VxWorks® build workflows. Built on Wind River Studio Pipelines, beginning in WRSD 25.05 the system supports auto-scaling, persistent storage, and integration with customer-preferred tools for source control of custom layers, artifact management, and container registry. Development teams benefit from faster builds, reduced infrastructure costs, and improved security, with ready-to-use templates and expert guidance that simplify onboarding.

A new, intermediate state to Pipelines offers a balanced approach to handling noncritical issues, promoting continuous development without compromising on quality or risk management. This addition supports continuous development, aligns with industry standards, and provides clear visibility into the development process.

MODULAR, SCALABLE TESTING AND AUTOMATION

Embedded development requires flexible and scalable testing. The WRSD 25.05 release offers major enhancements to the ways teams can test, debug, and validate software across a wide range of environments and use cases.

With the modular WRSD Developer Testing Suite — stand-alone Virtual Lab and Test Automation — developers can deploy modules independently of the full Studio stack, enabling integration into existing continuous integration/continuous development (CI/CD) pipelines with minimal setup. This lightweight CLI/API-first approach speeds the evaluation and adoption of useful elements, which is especially useful for teams that want to scale testing quickly while minimizing their infrastructure setup without toolchain lock-in.

Android emulator support enables developers and QA teams to build and test Android apps in containerized Kubernetes virtual machine environments. Doing so minimizes reliance on physical hardware and improves CI automation.

Additional enhancements such as Test Automation test plan cloning and simulation state management simplify test duplication and enable checkpoint-based simulation workflows. And with software lifecycle (SLC) gateway support for Windows, users can now connect directly to hardware targets from Windows development environments without Linux proxies. Together, these updates enhance test coverage, speed up validation, and reduce friction across DevSecOps workflows.

FASTER SETUP

Performance matters. We streamlined the Wind River Studio Developer installation and upgrade process, reducing installation time to under two hours for the Developer Testing Suite and eight hours for the Developer Efficiency Suite. With a more stable installer and fewer setup errors, teams can get up and running faster.
