Wind River Announces Symmetric Multiprocessing Support for Its Industry-Leading VxWorks Real-Time Operating System
With the introduction of SMP support in VxWorks, only Wind River can deliver a solution that addresses the full spectrum of technical and business issues faced by developers moving to a multicore solution. Wind River has made significant investments in both VxWorks and the Workbench development toolset. This enables developers to realize the promised benefits of multicore processing for their products while maintaining deterministic, real-time performance across a wide array of multicore hardware platforms. At the same time, customers can augment their product portfolio to take maximum advantage of their existing intellectual property and to allow their development teams to transition to the needs of SMP development. While multicore technology is relatively new to the embedded industry, multiprocessing is not. Wind River has taken its years of experience with multiprocessing to create products that provide the most direct path to get multicore solutions to market.

Wind River has alliances with leading providers of multicore processors and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware. Evaluations by Leading Customers
Key customers representing a variety of industries have been selected to evaluate advance versions of the VxWorks 6.6 SMP software, including Huawei, Kuka Roboter and ZTE. Each of these customers is evaluating the precise benefits they can derive by including VxWorks SMP support into their product lines.
Availability
VxWorks 6.6 SMP is offered as an optional add-on product for all the VxWorks 6.6-based platforms. VxWorks Platforms 6.6 and the VxWorks 6.6 SMP add-on product will be available in late 2007.
