Wind River Offers Advanced Training for Developers, Accelerates Learning Curve for Real-Time Embedded Software

ALAMEDA, Calif., January 22, 2000 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for smart devices in the Internet age, today announced Real-Time Programming for Embedded Systems, an advanced training workshop that focuses on real-time and embedded design issues and programming practices. This two-day program provides real-time software systems architects, project managers, technical support engineers, and technical consultants with the expert knowledge they need to design real-time software and embedded systems.

"Because of the ever-increasing market opportunity, there is a huge need for knowledgeable embedded developers," said Kamran Sokhanvari, vice president global operations and Service,. "Wind River's workshops can help customers fully understand the strength and power of embedded software and popular Wind River products. Our instructors offer practical techniques for using development tools, provide tips on developing real-time applications, and point out common mistakes and misconceptions. Students come away from a workshop with a portfolio of skills and knowledge that would otherwise take months of unstructured, ad hoc experimentation to acquire."

The new course, Real-Time Programming for Embedded Systems is part of Wind River's ongoing program to educate customers on the design and development of embedded software. Wind River spends thousands of hours refining the most effective teaching techniques for software professionals and has trained users in a range of application areas including telecommunications, control systems, robotics, and complex embedded systems.

Real-Time Embedded Programming is geared toward developers responsible for designing, structuring and implementing software for real-time and embedded systems, and real-time operating systems such as Wind River's VxWorks® and pSOSystem® RTOSes. It introduces embedded software concepts and fundamental issues in real-time design. It highlights device driver techniques, encapsulation methods and advanced techniques necessary for successful application design. It concludes with discussions on real-time scheduling.

Pre-requisites for the course include one year of C programming experience (or other high-level programming language such as Pascal) and a basic understanding of real-time operating systems.
