Wind River Announces Platform for Industrial Automation

Device makers in the industrial automation market are faced with demands for device management and connectivity that enable seamless data integration on the factory floor. Ethernet adoption is becoming crucial to the success of industrial devices, and according to recent research from ARC Advisory Group, Ethernet adoption at the device level will be a key determinant of the emergence of a common network architecture throughout the manufacturing enterprise.

PLATFORM IA offers manufacturers a market-specific integrated embedded platform that pre-integrates the industry’s most reliable real-time operating system (RTOS),Wind River’s VxWorks® RTOS, development tools, and key industrial automation networking technologies such as traditional and Ethernet fieldbuses, DCOM and OPC. PLATFORM IA enables developers to provide enterprise, monitoring and control connectivity to devices and focus on application development -- significantly reducing time consuming development, integration and test of foundation technologies
Key features of PLATFORM IA include:
- Operating System: PLATFORM IA relies on the VxWorks RTOS and its graphics, file systems and connectivity components (TCP/IP, Serial, USB and more). VxWorks RTOS is the most widely adopted RTOS in the embedded industry.
- Industrial Automation Protocols: PLATFORM IA provides integrated protocol stacks such as DCOM and OPC for back-office and supervisory systems connectivity and Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet for factory floor connectivity. In addition, a wide range of additional fieldbus technologies, including PROFIBUS, Modbus and CANopen are available through Wind River’s extensive partner community.
