Wind River Platform for Safety Critical Devices To Power Indra Sistemas Aircraft Identification Project for A400M Military Aircraft

ALAMEDA, Calif. – April 3, 2006 – Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), today announced that Indras Sistemas, Spain's leading information technology and defense systems company, has chosen Wind River® Platform for Safety Critical to serve as the foundation of an identification system for the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft. Wind River's device software platform for safety critical applications delivers a certifiable commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solution that enables aerospace and defense (A&D) companies like Indras Sistemas to improve productivity and project delivery by eliminating the need to create and certify an OS or development suite for each new project.

"Indra will develop an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system designed to provide the A400M with secure identification capabilities when interrogated by other airborne platforms. This capability enables the aircraft to identify itself as a ‘friend' when they encounter other NATO aircraft," said Domingo Yanez, identification systems manager, Indra Sistemas. "The Wind River Platform for Safety Critical devices provides us with a solid base upon which we can address the safety and security needs of this mission critical application."

In order to remain competitive in today's competitive landscape aerospace and defense manufacturers need to optimize their device software development to provide new applications with unmatched levels of security. The Wind River Platform for Safety Critical provides an efficient environment for the development of certifiable systems and applications. Wind River delivers quality solutions that provide A&D manufacturers like Indra Sistemas with the tools they need to continue developing technology that distinguishes them from their competitors while lowering development costs.

The Wind River Platform for Safety Critical delivers the stringent foundation that aerospace and defense companies need to address the safety and security needs of mission-critical applications, as well as the portability and reusability requirements of non-critical applications. The platform offers commercial, off-the-shelf DO-178B certification evidence, and is backed by Wind River's 20+ years of device software optimization experience, a broad network of hardware and software partners, a world-class support organization and a specialized professional services team.

"Wind River's device software continues to gain momentum among safety-critical projects due to our platforms' ability to rapidly, efficiently and economically support standards-compliant applications," said Chip Downing, A&D industry marketing manager, Wind River. "We are very pleased to see Indra Sistemas is continuing to rely on Wind River as its DSO technology supplier to develop a wide range of equipments in this highly demanding market."
