Bachmann electronic’s M1 controller system, a next-generation controller, is standardized on VxWorks, and includes modules for digital and analog I/O, network connectivity, fieldbuses, safety, and a processor module. The M1 is used in wind turbine applications but can also be used in a range of energy applications that require a safe, secure and reliable intelligent device.
The open-standards-based M1 system is highly flexible and configurable to meet specific customer needs. With VxWorks, Bachmann gained end-to-end development and run-time platforms based on open standards that make it possible to consolidate, integrate and manage complexity while mitigating risk. Wind River enabled the company to meet stringent real-time determinism requirements while taking advantage of the flexibility and cost benefits of open standards.
Martin Greif, head of R&D and automation units at Bachmann, commented, “With Wind River, we achieved a robust off-the-shelf foundation featuring operating system agnosticism; safety and security solutions; and pre-integrated, industry-specific platforms with a rich set of middleware. In addition, Wind River offers an independent software vendor (ISV) partner ecosystem and services practice that help us speed up, build out and customize our solutions.â€
“As devices expand beyond the traditional embedded device to intelligent devices, the challenge for our customers is to cost-effectively develop solutions that meet safety, security and reliability requirements while still meeting time-to-market goals and containing operational expenses,†said Alexander Damisch, director of industrial solutions at Wind River. “By providing Bachmann with a complete solution, including the products, services and support required to address all aspects of their product development life cycle, Wind River allowed Bachmann to successfully develop a state-of-the-art controller system operating environment in a short time frame and at a reduced cost.â€
