ALAMEDA, Calif. – August 19, 2013 – Wind River®, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, has won a Top Embedded Innovation of 2013 award from Embedded Computing Design magazine for its Wind River Intelligent Network Platform, a software platform for the creation of sophisticated network equipment that accelerates, analyzes and secures the flood of traffic for next generation networks.

In its Annual Resource Guide issue, published in August, Embedded Computing Design magazine revealed its editors’ picks for the embedded industry’s 2013 Most Innovative Products. Winners were chosen from the large field of entries that appeared in the magazine’s innovation-focused edition published in June. Winners were selected for each of the magazine’s focus categories: Silicon, Software, and Strategies. Wind River Intelligent Network Platform was named as the winner in the Software category.

“From a diverse array of entries, we looked for innovations that delivered exceptional benefits to the embedded design community, and recognized those technologies exhibiting outstanding levels of technical versatility and flexibility in addition to out-of-the-box thinking,” said Sharon Hess, managing editor at Embedded Computing Design. “Wind River Intelligent Network Platform offers developers powerful building blocks to help create the networks of the future, while offering a substantial boost in performance.”

“As network traffic continues to grow exponentially, the industry is under pressure to deliver increased performance, scalability and greater intelligence to better analyze and manage traffic,” said Paul Senyshyn, senior director of communications platforms at Wind River. “This award is a great accomplishment that acknowledges our efforts to help customers address current network challenges and also scale to meet new demands. Wind River Intelligent Network Platform, along with our investments in network functions virtualization and software defined networking technologies, are helping customers start to build tomorrow’s network vision today.”

Wind River Intelligent Network Platform has been designed to deliver maximum scalability and flexibility to build faster, smarter, and more secure network elements of all types, including security appliances and mobile and broadband edge devices. The platform is comprised of software that manages a consolidated control and data plane system, and software engines that provide capabilities such as application acceleration, fast packet acceleration and deep packet inspection (DPI). Configured with Wind River Linux and a comprehensive suite of development tools, the software platform can also support different combinations of the components, including alternative Linux distributions. Additionally, Wind River offers world-class global support, training and services.

In addition to Wind River Intelligent Network Platform, Wind River continues to build on its technology momentum in the networking space with its recent introductions of Wind River Open Network Software, Carrier Grade Profile for Wind River Linux and Open Virtualization Profile.
