Prestigious Automotive Industry Consortium Selects Wind River Linux as Preferred Platform to Develop On-Board Equipment

TELEMATICS UPDATES CONFERENCE, DETROIT, MI — May 22, 2007 - Wind River Systems, Inc (NADSAQ:WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), today announced that the Vehicle Infrastructure Integration Consortium (VIIC), has selected Wind River® General Purpose Platform, Linux Edition as the platform for developing the Vehicle On-Board Equipment (OBE) for their proof-of-concept activities. Comprised of a group of leading automobile manufacturers, VIIC’s OBE initiative will enable a standards-based communications infrastructure that supports vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle communications in an effort to improve vehicle safety, vehicle mobility and enable consumer and commercial services. Wind River was chosen by the consortium for the strength and breadth of its Linux solutions, its extensive automotive expertise and its robust global support services.

VIIC selected Wind River's Linux distribution for automotive solutions after a comprehensive review and thoughtful consideration that compared other Linux vendors and the leading proprietary operating systems in the automotive industry today. The Wind River solution delivers an unmatched platform that combines flexibility with ease of integration, and can firmly support a decentralized project like OBE, to enable a low-risk, open-source solution.

The VIIC was established in 2004 to support the National VII Coalition effort to determine the feasibility of nationwide deployment of a Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) program, and to establish a strategy for implementation, communications standards and capabilities. The National VII Coalition consists of the U.S. Department of Transportation, ten State Departments of Transportation, and light vehicle manufacturers. The VIIC's members are: BMW of North America, LLC, DaimlerChrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, Honda R&D Americas, Inc., Nissan North America, Inc., Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc., Volkswagen of America, Inc. The VIIC will use Wind River's expertise in open source and automotive solutions to deliver a board support package (BSP) and configure an emulation platform to accelerate development of OBE. In addition, Wind River's global support organization will deliver local support, enabling the decentralized development and field testing for the initiative's disparate members.

"Gaining the support of a highly-regarded group such as the VII-C is important for Wind River and further solidifies our position as a leader in the automotive device space," said Leslie Mulligan, General Manager, Automotive Solutions, Wind River.

Vehicle OBE delivers an OSGi/Java-based application host platform; vehicle interface, human/machine interface (HMI) and global positioning services; and embedded Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) radio, WAVE stack and Java communications API. If deployed, VII will require the build-out of networks, digital radios, pods and communications systems on major US roadways. Such a deployment of roadside infrastructure may incorporate various Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies into the transportation network and integrate ITS communications and sensors in vehicles.

To see the VII OBE prototype in action, visit the Wind River booth at Telematics Update - Detroit 2007. More information about the VII may be found at http://www.its.dot.gov/vii/index.htm.

Wind River and Curtiss-Wright Expand Strategic Partnership to Deliver a More Integrated Product and Service Offering to the Aerospace & Defense Market

Alameda, CA and Leesburg, VA — May 15, 2007 — Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), and Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, the industry’s most comprehensive designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, and CompactPCI products for the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) market, today announced that Curtiss-Wright’s Linux Center of Excellence, located in San Diego, California, will support Wind RiverÒ General Purpose Platform, Linux Edition and the Wind River Real-Time Core for Linux solution as their standard Linux operating environments for use on the company’s x86-based platforms. Curtiss-Wright has long offered VxWorks as its standard out-of-the-box RTOS solution for its rugged COTS board product line. As a result of this expanded strategic partnership, embedded system integrators now will be able to more easily and rapidly deploy Wind River Linux and VxWorks solutions for rugged deployed military systems, significantly mitigating their risk and speeding their time to market.
“Wind River, the industry leading device software provider, understands how crucial a reliable, durable, efficient and safe device is for the Aerospace & Defense industry,” said Lynn Patterson, Vice President and General Manager of Modular Solutions, Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “We chose to expand our partnership with Wind River because, in addition to their market-leading VxWorks platform, the company offers best-of-breed guaranteed real-time Linux device software that provides our customers with a quality solution unmatched in the industry today.”

Offering a wealth of solutions to support the entire rugged deployed marketplace, the Curtiss-Wright COTS Continuum strategy has previously standardized on providing comprehensive Wind River VxWorks support, one of the most established and widely deployed real-time operating system solutions. Curtiss-Wright’s COTS Continuum initiative optimizes interoperability across its product lines and empowers customers and solution providers to leverage new computing technologies without the cost and risk associated with adopting new software and hardware interfaces. Curtiss-Wright expands its ability to meet growing Aerospace & Defense industry demands by offering Wind River Linux and Real-Time Core on its Intel x86-based board products. With the addition of Wind River Linux and Real-Time Core as standardized solutions, Curtiss-Wright is better able to offer its end-customers a truly integrated solution, fundamental to its long-term goals and strategy.

“Curtiss-Wright is the industry’s most complete and experienced vendor for rugged deployed mission-critical embedded solutions, delivering increasingly complex solutions to the Aerospace & Defense market,” said Vincent Rerolle, Wind River’s vice president of corporate development. “By expanding our relationship and closely partnering with Curtiss-Wright, we are able to offer customers the kind of high-level of comprehensive, integrated solutions that they require on a daily basis.”

"Wind River and Curtiss-Wright are both committed to providing customers with the solutions needed to get a product to market faster, at lower cost, and most importantly, more reliably," said David Lang, SIMS Project Engineer for Howell Instruments, Inc. "Understanding exactly what a customer requires and developing solutions that meet or exceed those needs benefits us and ensures Wind River and Curtiss-Wright remain the leaders in their respective industries."

Curtiss-Wright is Wind River’s first board vendor strategic partner in the A&D industry to standardize on VxWorks, Wind River Linux, and Real-Time Core. Wind River Linux solutions are engineered, integrated, tested, validated and maintained by Wind River's world-class service and support. Offered as an add-on to Wind River Linux, Real-Time Core has been regarded in the software industry as one of the best and most mature, guaranteed real-time Linux solutions available today. Real-Time Core provides a guaranteed real-time executive that coexists with Wind River Linux. Together, they combine the guaranteed real-time responsiveness with the broad capabilities of the Linux operating system to enable mission-critical applications.
