Building New Military Infrastructure with Open Virtualization Platforms and Cloud Technologies
The rapid expansion of commercial offerings in the Internet of Things (IoT) is changing the business models of military information systems by creating the opportunity to reduce costs while vastly improving military communications and sensing systems. This paper describes how new IoT products can create a secure sensor-to-cloud environment built from commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software components, as well as strategies for provisioning, managing, and decommissioning cloud-connected devices.
- New opportunities for the military created by the commercialization of IoT
- COTS IoT products based on open virtualization platforms and cloud technologies
- Key benefits that come from the transition to software-defined systems
