Wind River Chairman Will Ponder Balance of Software and Silicon at DAC

ALAMEDA, Calif., April 1, 2002 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected devices, today announced that chairman Jerry Fiddler will discuss the convergence of silicon, EDA and embedded software in his keynote address during the 39th Design Automation Conference (DAC) June 10-14, 2002, in New Orleans.

Fiddler's presentation, "Software and Silicon Where's the Equilibrium?" will examine the trends and problems that are driving companies to cross comfortable boundaries between the traditionally distinct realms of embedded software, silicon manufacturing and electronic design automation. Fiddler will deliver his keynote on June 13 at 1 p.m.

"Despite repeated predictions that embedded software, silicon and design would move closer together, and some real attempts to do so, those predictions have mostly proved false," commented Fiddler. "Now, however, technology and economic trends are making it necessary and inevitable that suppliers find new ways to solve our customers problems."

An expert in the design and implementation of real-time systems, Fiddler co-founded embedded technology company Wind River in 1981. Since then, Fiddler has played many roles at Wind River, from CEO and the company's only programmer, to president and chairman of the board.

DAC attendees will also have the opportunity to hear Wind River's chief technologist, John Fogelin, on a panel entitled "Unified Tools for SOC (System On Chip) Embedded Systems: Mission Critical, Mission Impossible or Mission Irrelevant." The panel will convene on June 12 at 4:30 p.m.
