Wind River Wins N+I "Best of Interop'' Award for Networked Storage Technology

LAS VEGAS, Nev., May 9, 2002 -- Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND - news), a leading provider of software and services for connected devices, today announced that its Tornado for Intelligent Network Acceleration (TINA) for iSCSI Initiators platform was named the winner for best networked storage technology at the Best of Interop Awards competition during NetWorld + Interop (N+I) 2002. The judges for this prestigious award -- editors from leading technology magazines including Network Computing, InformationWeek and EE Times -- reviewed over 250 submissions overall and determined that Wind River's TINA for iSCSI Initiators deserved the top honor based upon their rigorous evaluation.

About TINA for iSCSI Initiators
TINA for iSCSI Initiators is a development platform for IP-based storage networking devices, and was introduced this week at N+I (see previous release, Wind River Releases TINA for iSCSI Initiators for Development of iSCSI-Enabled Storage Networking Devices). It bundles Wind River's TINA TCP/IP offload engine with an Internet SCSI (iSCSI) protocol layer, providing network equipment manufacturers with all necessary hardware and software components needed to develop iSCSI-based storage networking devices.

The product is comprised of Wind River's Tornado integrated development environment, including the IxWorks(TM) real-time operating system (RTOS), which shares the same kernel and full application programming interface (API) as the VxWorks RTOS, and is specifically designed for high-throughput I/O environments. It also includes a draft standard 0.8 compliant version of the iSCSI protocol, and will support the 1.0 version when ratified. TINA for iSCSI Initiators also includes a specifically modified TCP/IP stack and drivers to support GbE.
