AUSTIN, Texas and ALAMEDA, Calif., - October 30, 2001 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND) and Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced the expansion of their Center of Excellence co-development technology initiative for processors that implement the PowerPC architecture. The successful collaboration has been expanded to provide Wind River's leading software support for Motorola's S1 family of network security processors, with the two companies teaming up to deliver the market's first off-the-shelf embedded development solution for hardware-accelerated encryption of network traffic. The optimized hardware-software offering is designed to enable customers to quickly develop secure network applications in markets such as cable and DSL modems, broadband access points in SOHO-gateways and routers, as well as network edge access concentrators.

The fully integrated solution combines Wind River's suite of security software products, including the WindNet™ networking protocols for VxWorks, with Motorola's S1 family of network security processors&151;beginning with the MPC180. This announcement extends a long list of Wind River products supporting Motorola processors that implement the PowerPC instruction set architecture through a Center of Excellence agreement announced earlier this year (see Wind River, Motorola Create Center of Excellence to Deliver Leading Software for Prominent PowerPC Microprocessors, February 12, 2001).

The collaboration between the two companies addresses the growing market demand for network security, which is rapidly becoming a required feature in all classes of data communications equipment. Measured strictly by security processors, the network security market is expected to grow 36% annually through 2005. (DataQuest, Security Processors in 2001).

A Complete Solution
Wind River's security software is part of the WindNet family of networking products. It enhances the capabilities of embedded networking applications by providing a standard platform for securing networks with encrypted tunnels between two machines connected over a public network like the Internet. Wind River will support each processor that becomes available starting with the MPC180. The MPC180 Security Processor is the first of Motorola's S1 family of network security processors.
