Wind River Linux LTS 25

Based on the latest Yocto Project 5.2 Walnascar and Linux Kernel 6.12 LTS, this release adds new hardware support as well as incremental updates and optimizations.

Wind River adopts, builds, and deploys Linux for intelligent edge use cases based on expertise garnered from 20 years of Wind River® Linux and 15 years of contributions to the Yocto Project. The latest Wind River LTS 25 release is based on Yocto Project 5.2 Walnascar (also known as Walna), leveraging the latest Linux Kernel 6.12 LTS (LongTerm Support) and its package versions. It includes board-support packages (BSPs) for the latest hardware platforms and software development kits (SDKs).

This release addresses three pivotal areas:

  • Optimized security and vulnerability protection to meet latest regulations
  • Expanded build host support
  • Improved benchmarking artifacts

OPTIMIZED SECURITY AND VULNERABILITY PROTECTION

Wind River Linux LTS 25 enhances security in several ways. Software bill of materials (SBOM) harmonization makes component tracking easy, CVE scanner support reduces false positives, and the new release has precise vendor package versioning. These features align with the latest regulations, such as Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) requirements. That streamlines compliance and vulnerability management across embedded systems and critical infrastructure.

EXPANDED BUILD HOST SUPPORT

Wind River Linux LTS 25 adds eLxr host support and introduces a build container, eliminating host dependencies. This streamlines workflows, enhances portability, and integrates seamlessly with CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, testing, and consistent deployment across various environments.

IMPROVED BENCHMARKING ARTIFACTS

Wind River Linux LTS 25 improves benchmarking transparency with easily consumable and shareable results. That makes it easier for developers to validate performance and stability more effectively. Doing so fosters confidence in system quality and accelerates development cycles through shared, actionable insights.
