What’s New in eLxr Pro 12.12
The December 2025 release of the enterprise Linux that keeps your edge AI ahead of the curve gets more hardware support, compliance automation, and easier tools for adoption.
Wind River’s commercially supported Linux offering, eLxr Pro™, provides reliable, secure, and cost-effective enterprise-grade Linux solutions that address the unique challenges of edge computing. Based on the eLxr project, an open source Debian-derived Linux distribution, eLxr Pro expands access to enterprise and cloudnative environments while seamlessly connecting edge devices.
The latest release, with General Availability in December 2025, strengthens eLxr Pro in three core dimensions: AI-optimized infrastructure, security and lifecycle assurance, and an improved customer and partner experience. Look for deeper hardware enablement, enhanced compliance automation, and streamlined onboarding and validation tools.
AI-OPTIMIZED EDGE INFRASTRUCTURE
As customers adopt heterogeneous compute — mixing CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs — this update ensures that the platform can support modern inference frameworks with consistent performance and reliable hardware enablement. This release advances eLxr Pro as a high-performance Linux foundation for AI-driven edge workloads.
Among eLxr Pro 12.12’s enhancements across compute enablement, platform validation, and AI workload readiness:
- Kernel and driver support for Intel Granite Rapids-D
- Early enablement for Arrow Lake and the Level Zero SDK for emerging NPU and AI acceleration
- Expanded certification for Intel Edge Platform and cloud platforms
- Expanded hardware support for new AI and high-performance computing (HPC) hardware across heterogeneous device profiles, including Intel Granite Rapids-D and Intel Arrow Lake
- Pilot programs for AI model testing, workload compatibility, and edge inference validation; eLxr Pro can now be used in early-access customer and partner engagements to prove that AI workloads run reliably before full production rollout
As a result, customers can run modern inference engines, such as OpenVINO, PyTorch Mobile, and TensorFlow Lite, directly at the edge with stronger performance consistency.
That offers a predictable, production-ready environment for deploying AI workloads across diverse hardware setups. Early access to new Intel platforms can shorten development cycles and make it easier to adopt on-device inference.
SECURITY, COMPLIANCE, AND LIFECYCLE ASSURANCE
Many Wind River customers demand tools to support mission-critical, regulated deployments with verified security and predictable long-term support. This release delivers major enhancements in compliance, patching, and security lifecycle management, including:
- Strengthened alignment with STIG and FIPS 140-3 requirements
- Ongoing CVSS benchmarking and STIG/FIPS validation
- Improved CVE repair, automated patching, and lifecycle tracking through the eLxr Pro console
eLxr Pro 12.12 strengthens security and compliance automation. It equips customers with built-in compliance paths and automated security maintenance. Lifecycle assurance simplifies audits and ensures that systems remain secure, consistent, and deployment ready at the edge.
Customers gain a more streamlined, audit-ready environment with faster certification pass-through thanks to our work on pre-validated STIG, FIPS, and CVSS work. Automated CVE repair and continuous patching reduce risk and operational burden, and unified lifecycle visibility helps teams maintain compliance with fewer surprises.
CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE, SERVICES, AND ECOSYSTEM ENABLEMENT
“Experience” captures the way developers and IT use software — and makes them want to use it. That matters to Wind River as much as the platform’s technical excellence.
This eLxr Pro release addresses how customers adopt, validate, and operate eLxr Pro by strengthening the platform’s tools, services, and ecosystem programs. This eLxr Pro 12.12 update gives teams a faster predictable path from evaluation to production.
In this release, a set of experience-driven capabilities streamlines onboarding and ecosystem integration:
- eLxr Pro free trials shorten time to first success.
- Partner self-service certification tools let hardware and software vendors validate their tech stacks quickly and independently.
- An enhanced eLxr Pro console (in alpha testing) provides unified workflows for certification, patching, and lifecycle visibility.
- Wind River® Professional Services offers engineering and migration expertise for customers modernizing from legacy Linux.
Customers get started faster and with more confidence. New onboarding includes guided trials, easier validation with self-service certification tools, and clearer lifecycle control through the enhanced eLxr Pro console. With support from Wind River Professional Services, migrations from legacy Linux environments become far less risky and complex. Those services now address AI-ready, large-scale Linux environments, which are critical for customers migrating from legacy enterprise Linux environments.
eLxr Pro provides a predictable, scalable, and production-ready foundation for edge workloads across industrial, defense, telecom, and other high-reliability environments. And in this release, eLxr Pro is simpler to adopt, easier to manage, and more reliable to operate at the edge.
