eLxr Pro
Empowering the next generation of enterprise server innovation with the freedom of open source software, self-determination, and the assurance of enterprise commercial support and expert consultancy services
Enterprise server deployment teams choose Linux for its cutting-edge capabilities and freedom from vendor lock-in. The open source philosophy — source code is accessible, modifiable, and shareable — drives community innovation and supports self-determination. This collaborative model allows diverse distribution options and fosters independence. However, recent restrictions on source code access threaten this collaborative and independent spirit.
In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, it’s crucial to provide access to new technologies and support a variety of unique deployments. While existing commercial enterprise Linux distributions are valued for their stability and long-term support, their extensive vetting processes can slow the integration of emerging technologies and custom solutions.
INTRODUCING THE ELXR PROJECT
The eLxr project is a community-driven initiative that offers an open source, enterprise-grade Debian derivative. This Linux platform empowers enterprises to adopt scalable, secure, and highly reliable Linux solutions for cloudto-edge deployments:
- Upstream-first approach: Fully aligned with Debian’s open governance, ensuring a free operating system that preserves software freedom
- Cloud-native ready: Optimized for containerized workloads and supported across a range of modern runtimes
- Performance optimized: Ready for COTS hardware and prioritizing support for silicon accelerators
- Security first: Continuous security monitoring throughout package lifecycles
- Compact and extensible: Right-sized packages adaptable to industry-specific needs
The eLxr project is an ideal Linux distribution for a number of cloud-to-edge server use cases deploying in on-premises, remote, and nontraditional data centers across multiple market segments, including automotive, aerospace and defense, healthcare, industrial, and telecommunications.

CONSULTANCY AND EXPERT SERVICES ADD-ONS
Technical Analysis and Assessments
Customers interested in building specialized workloads on eLxr project can access the Wind River team of design experts to evaluate and assess which packages, features, and performance requirements are necessary to build a solution that fits their unique use case. This service is ideal for implementations that deploy into remote or accessrestricted environments.
Migration and Implementation Services
Wind River provides migration services to assess, plan, and execute moving a customer’s existing workload to the eLxr project distribution. These expert services are designed to quickly and seamlessly migrate a customer workload from Red Hat Linux, SUSE, Ubuntu, CentOS, Rocky Linux, or other Linux offerings to eLxr Pro. The Wind River Professional Services team can be engaged onsite or remotely and will produce a roadmap for execution and a plan to move your full estate.
Performance Tuning
Workloads deployed in remote locations may be restricted by space, weight, and power (SWaP). The Wind River team of experts is keenly aware of SWaP situations and can tune the eLxr project distribution to meet the performance requirements of unique deployment environments. Wind River has decades of experience in deploying operating systems onto satellite hardware — the ultimate SWaP environment — and in tuning the Linux kernel for performance in embedded masthead radio transmitters, another critical SWaP deployment challenge.
Use Case Optimizations
Servers running workloads at the intelligent edge often have many synergies with far edge embedded devices and systems. Device deployments connected to remote servers frequently send a variety of sensor data that needs to be parsed, interpreted, and actioned. eLxr Pro provides use case–specific optimizations for workloads with additional or unique requirements for footprint, processing speed, additional security, and AI-driven or AI-enabled interpretation and actionable instructions. Wind River can help enable a digital feedback loop in your deployment, delivering eLxrbased solutions into the most complex mission-critical deployment scenarios.
ENHANCED SECURITY, EVALUATIONS, AND CERTIFICATIONS
Many server workloads operate in mission-critical systems, playing a vital role in the success of field deployments. In these situations, additional security measures and certifications may be required to satisfy end customer service-level agreements. eLxr Pro offers accelerated CVE (common vulnerabilities and exposures) remediation and will support FIPS 140-3 compliance and STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides) in a future release. Customers can also leverage the extensive Wind River mission-critical software experience in achieving stringent safety and industry certifications and compliance, such as NIAP Common Criteria and FedRAMP compliance and FACE™ (Future Airborne Capability Environment) conformance. Wind River has a proven track record of providing DO-178 certifications for specific Linux configurations in the aerospace and defense sector.
CUSTOMER SUCCESS, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING
Wind River offers onsite and virtual education and training courses for users of the eLxr project distribution. Classes can be instructor led or on demand through e-learning formats. These education and training services are designed to get teams to full user efficiency as quickly as possible. Classes start at the beginner level and extend to expertlevel users. In addition, eLxr Pro customers can have an attached customer success manager to provide white-glove service to users who need direct access to Wind River experts.
