Wind River Offers First Official Android Platform Demonstration On Texas Instruments’ OMAP3430 Wireless Development Kit Platform

Android demonstrated on LogicPD's Zoom Mobile Development Kit (MDK) based on Texas Instruments' OMAP3430 processor at Mobile World Congress

BARCELONA — Mobile World Congress — Hall 2, Booth #2H72 — February 12, 2008 — Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), announced today that it has partnered with Texas Instruments (TI) to demonstrate the Open Handset Alliance Android platform, which is currently available as an 'early look' release, on LogicPD's Zoom Mobile Development Kit (MDK) based on Texas Instruments' OMAP3430 processor at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Texas Instruments selected Wind River to port, integrate, test and optimize Android on the Zoom MDK because of Wind River's role as a Linux Commercialization Partner for the Open Handset Alliance and its experience porting the Android platform to new architectures.

The Zoom MDK is a form-factor development platform that leverages the processing capabilities of OMAP3430 while offering developers a more realistic system for development and validation. This platform, built around LogicPD's product-ready System on Module, reduces costs when compared to current TI development platforms, further enabling innovation on the OMAP™ platform.

"Texas Instruments is a leader in the mobile semiconductor market and we are excited to have the opportunity to officially demonstrate the first Android-based solution on LogicPD's Zoom MDK," said John Bruggeman, Chief Marketing Officer at Wind River. "This exciting form factor demonstration is possible based on Wind River's expertise in Linux and handset architecture and our role as a Linux Commercialization Partner for the Open Handset Alliance. As a strategic member of both the Open Handset Alliance and the LiMo Foundation, Wind River is in a unique position to help deliver on the industry's need for an open, standards-based Linux platform for mobile handsets and devices."

As an Open Handset Alliance Linux Commercialization Partner, Wind River has already established Android expertise and, coupled with its experience in bringing Linux-based devices to market, offers a compelling solution to device manufacturers. In addition, the Texas Instruments Android demonstration illustrates Wind River's strength and flexibility to support next-generation mobile silicon. Mobile handset Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and operators are increasingly seeking solutions that can significantly reduce overall time-to-market of handsets. The Texas Instruments OMAP3430 multimedia applications processor with a complete software development platform aids in further shortening the application development cycle as the software platform is already embedded in the handset form factor. This, combined with superb development environment provided by Android, enables developers, ecosystem partners and customers to innovate on top of the features provided by the OMAP3430 solution, such as 3D graphics, multimedia accelerators and application UI integration faster, better and more reliably.

"Texas Instruments is providing the foundation to ease the development process with the flexible and affordable Zoom MDK, said Markus Tremmel, worldwide wireless ecosystem manager at Texas Instruments. "TI and Wind River have a long history of collaboration and we are delighted to be powering this Android-based mobile handset together."
