ALAMEDA, Calif. - July 30, 2004 - Wind River Systems, Inc., the global leader in device software optimization (DSO), today announced that John Bruggeman has been named Chief Marketing Officer, reporting to Ken Klein, President, CEO and Chairman. Bruggeman will have responsibility for product planning and management, corporate marketing and field marketing. Wind River also announced that Tomas Evensen has been promoted to Chief Technology Officer, reporting to Scot Morrison, Vice President of Engineering. Evensen will have responsibility for the technical and architectural vision and roadmap for the company.

"In creating the CTO position for Tomas Evensen and moving John Bruggeman into the CMO role, we are realigning our executive team to place a greater emphasis on two key priorities -- delivering on our technology vision for Device Software Optimization, and clearly communicating our value proposition to Wind River's key audiences and stakeholders," said Ken Klein, President, CEO and Chairman. "Tomas and John have made phenomenal contributions to Wind River's progress, its vision and its strategic direction, and I am confident that in their new roles both will continue to provide the leadership and execution that will further Wind River's success."

Bruggeman joined the company in February 2004 and has been responsible for corporate marketing, branding, press and analyst relations, demand generation and field marketing. Prior to joining Wind River, Bruggeman held several marketing leadership positions, including Vice President, Marketing at Mercury Interactive; Vice President, Marketing and Business Development at America Online; and Vice President, Strategic Planning at Netscape.

Evensen has been with Wind River since 1985, serving most recently as Senior Director for the VxWorks General Purpose Platforms, a role which included management of Wind River's middleware and board support package (BSP) strategies. Evensen created the Eclipse-based architecture strategy for the company's Wind River Workbench product. Evensen also envisioned and launched the company's Advanced Engineering Team.

Wind River's current CMO, Dave Fraser, will be leaving the company to pursue outside interests. "We would like to thank Dave for more than thirteen years of outstanding contributions to Wind River and wish him well in his new endeavors," said Klein.
