Wind River Supports Intel's StrongARM and XScale Micro-Architecture for Enhanced Wireless, Networking and Telecommunication Development

ALAMEDA, Calif., July 16, 2001 — Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected smart devices, today announced availability of Wind River's leading Tornado® integrated development environment (IDE) and VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) for the Intel® XScale™ microarchitecture. This announcement extends a long list of Wind River products supporting Intel processors, including the Intel StrongARM* microarchitecture and IXP1200 Network Processor families. This software is the result of Intel and Wind River's collaboration under the Center for Excellence program. Tornado II development environment offers the integrated optimized GNU compiler, the VxWorks real-time operating system, device driver support for the Intel Fast Ethernet controller, new board support packages for the Intel® IQ80310 evaluation platform and Wind River PPMC80310 development board. Tornado® Tools provide the next evolutionary step in integrated development environments, a more visual, automated environment that makes creating applications on VxWorks® fast and easy for developers of all experience levels. Optional product support includes WindView®, TrueFFS for Tornado, Wind Web Server™, SNMP, graphics support, and more to help customers develop a wide array of applications early in the processor life cycle.

Availability
Tornado II is shipping now on Windows, Solaris and HP-UX hosts. Hardware bring-up tools such as visionCLICK, visionICE II, visionPROBE II, and visionWARE, visionXD are also available and shipping along with Wind River's PPMC80310 and the PCI I/O card Intel XScale microarchitecture-based reference designs.
