StarCore DSP Core Technology Sets Sail with Wind River Embedded Software Solutions
The StarCore Technology Center is the cooperative research and development initiative between Agere Systems [formerly the Microelectronics Group of Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU)] and Motorola. The StarCore Technology Center's objective is to develop best-in-class DSP cores and development tools that aid Motorola and Agere in delivering innovative DSP SoC solutions. These solutions are well aligned with the needs of both Agere Systems and Motorola, as well as their customers, in emerging communications applications in third generation (3G) wireless handsets and infrastructure, networking clients and servers, voice/data/video over Internet protocol (IP), and consumer and transportation markets. These DSP solutions can be expected to help increase efficiencies and reduce time to market for new releases of cores and tools, so that original equipment manufacturers can gain access to a common base of code-compatible DSP cores with broad application value.

To help Agere Systems and Motorola build these solutions, Wind River's powerful embedded development tools and operating system technology will be made available for the StarCore SC100 generation of DSP cores. Wind River will develop and provide the Diab(tm) C/C++ compiler and RTA Suite(tm) of run-time analysis tools, a StarCore-targeted source-level debugger, visionPROBE hardware debug tools to aid in the early stages of hardware bring-up, and a future version of its Tornado® integrated development environment (IDE). In addition, Wind River will provide a multi-core DSP operating system derived from technology recently acquired from Eonic Systems (see related press release, Wind River to Acquire DSP Technology from Eonic Systems, April 4, 2001).
