Wind River Delivers Early Software, Development Tool Support for New Intel XScale Processors

ALAMEDA, Calif., February, 13, 2002 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected devices, today announced immediate availability of its development solution for the new Intel PXA250 and PXA210 processors (see related Intel release yesterday, Intel Advances Power and Performance for Wireless Devices), targeting next-generation wireless and mobile consumer electronics equipment. Wind River support for the Intel XScale technology-based PXA250 and PXA210 processors includes its market-leading VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), Tornado integrated development environment (IDE), hardware bring-up tools and reference design.

As wireless networks throughout the world continue to advance, services for high-speed, two-way data with multimedia capabilities are quickly emerging. Well suited for the development of wireless applications that combine data and voice services, Wind River's development platform for the Intel PXA250 Applications Processor provides embedded software, development tools and advanced connectivity software addressing every step of the embedded development lifecycle from early hardware bring-up to software development, test and debug phases all the way through to manufacturing test and remote device management. Manufacturers developing next-generation mobile cellular handsets, PDAs, Internet access devices and automotive clients powered by these new processors can immediately leverage the same reliability, performance and support that has made Wind River the leading worldwide embedded software provider.

"We use Intel technology and Wind River's VxWorks RTOS in our product today and are happy to see the roadmaps from Intel and Wind River aligned in this market," said Tae-Gyu Kim, Project Manager, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. "Knowing that Wind River will fully support newer mobile and handheld consumer electronics-targeted silicon with complete development solutions is a key benefit."

Specifically, Wind River offers developers the following products optimized for the Intel PXA250 and PXA210 processors:

  • Diab"! C/C++ compiler

  • Highly optimized compiling solution that generates class-leading code performance and code size.

  • Tornado II IDE
