Wind River Completes Tornado for Managed Switches Support For IBM's NP4GS3 Network Processor

ALAMEDA, Calif., December, 13, 2001 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected smart devices, today announced the completion of the initial integration phase for the switch support package (SSP) integrating the Tornado® for Managed Switches (TMS) 2.0 product line with the IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 Network Processor. This integration indicates progress toward achieving goals set forth in the joint agreement announced in February of this year.

In order to take advantage of advances in both TMS and IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 architecture that have occurred in parallel over the past few months, general availability of the TMS SSP is scheduled for 2Q 2002.

The IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 network processor is the latest in a suite of network processors to be supported by TMS. Integrated together, TMS and the IBM NP4GS3 network processor bring a significant time to market advantage in the development of advanced networking devices used in optical networking and metropolitan Gigabit Ethernet applications. This SSP builds on the maturity, stability and flexibility of TMS as the development environment and supports hardware such as the IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 that is optimized for Layer 2 and Layer 3 fast-path forwarding and packet processing.

Wind River has invested our resources into the integration of TMS and IBM's PowerNP NP4GS3 so that our customer's can choose from the leading network processors when creating their advanced networking devices, said Dave Fraser, group vice president and general manager, Wind River Networks business unit. Using a proven and integrated foundation like TMS allows our customers to focus on differentiating their product rather than spending precious development resources on reinventing the wheel.

Wind River TMS helps our customers achieve faster time to market. Working with Wind River, IBM is able to provide OEM customers with the tools and products they need to quickly deliver high performance networking solutions to the marketplace, said Steve Longoria, director of Network Processor Marketing & Strategy.
