Wind River Demonstrates Enhanced Networking Performance Using PLATFORM for Network Equipment Increased

  • Continuing its tradition of anticipating and exceeding customer demands, Wind River has increased performance of its network routing stack through the use of PLATFORM for Network Equipment (PNE) to meet changing market needs for increased throughput.
  • The fully integrated, tested, and feature-rich PLATFORM NE works to reduce the risks of developing and delivering products on time and on budget.

Alameda, Calif.--September 16, 2002--Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: WIND), the worldwide market leader in embedded software and services, will illustrate its continued innovation in the network equipment development space at the Intel Developer Forum, September 16-18 at the McEnery Convention Center, San Jose, California (booth number 406). In response to changing market needs for IP stack performance, Wind River has increased the performance capabilities in Wind River's router stack, as reflected in results from a recent Intel performance test in which Wind River PNE doubled improvement over the standard Wind River VxWorks 5.5 network stack.

The market needs for IP stack performance in networking equipment is changing rapidly with several trends driving the need for faster IP performance. For example, new access technologies like VDSL and FTTH are driving bandwidth requirements, and access equipment like DSL, Cable, and FTTH modems are requiring higher and higher IP performance. In the wired and wireless infrastructure markets there has been a considerable movement from proprietary circuit/packet switched backplanes to standard Ethernet backplanes. To enable manufacturers of these access, wireless, backplane, and other network infrastructure products to meet the demand for higher performance, Wind River has advanced performance of its PLATFORM for Network Equipment, as showcased in Intel's most recent performance test findings using the Intel IXP425 reference board. Visit PLATFORM for Network Equipment Whitepaper for details.

"We are committed to providing our customers with the most progressive, robust and reliable development solutions," said Dave Fraser, group vice president of products for Wind River. "Wind River's comprehensive and fully integrated PLATFORM NE has revolutionized the way developers can create network equipment."
