ALAMEDA, Calif. and Taipei, Taiwan--Motorola SNDF Asia--October 20, 2003--Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: WIND), the worldwide market leader in embedded software and services, today announces general availability of Wind River's VxWorks(R) 5.5.1 and Tornado(R) 2.2.1 products for Motorola's PowerQUICC(TM) III communications processors, which are based on the Book E(TM) PowerPC(TM) e500 core. Also available immediately are Wind River's SBC85XX development boards and Wind River's Board Support Package for PowerQUICC III processors.

"Wind River has worked closely with Motorola's engineers in the lab to ensure that the PowerQUICC III processor architecture was verified to meet the needs of embedded developers in the network communications market," said David Perkins, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Networking and Computing Systems Group. "The general availability of Wind River's VxWorks, Tornado and tools for PowerQUICC III processors is an important milestone as this processor architecture realizes its full potential in the communications and networking equipment marketplace."

Earlier this month, Wind River announced the general availability of its hardware bring-up tools WIND POWER ICE and WIND POWER IDE 1.2 for PowerQUICCIII. The early availability of the increasingly broad range of Wind River technology for the PowerQUICC III architecture enables Wind River's and Motorola's joint customers to take immediate advantage of Motorola's high-performance processors for building advanced networking applications.

"Once again, Wind River's long-standing relationship with Motorola has proven to be a tremendous competitive advantage for our joint customers in the networking market," said Michel Genard, general manager and senior director of hardware assisted and stand-alone tools product division for Wind River. "By working directly with Motorola's engineers, we are able to provide customers with a complete software and tools solution that enables developers to bring products to market faster."

Wind River also plans to add support for the PowerQUICC III architecture to its integrated embedded platform for the networking market, WIND RIVER PLATFORM for Network Equipment (PNE). Wind River's PNE enables rapid development of reliable network infrastructure equipment using the industry's most proven and advanced operating system, development tools, and networking stacks. The integration, testing, and rich-feature set of Wind River's PNE all work to reduce the risks of developing and delivering products on time and on budget.
