Wind River Announces Support for Motorolas New MPC8560 Processor

Wind River expects many of its joint Motorola networking customers to adopt the new Motorola MPC8560 processor in their high-performance designs. Wind River will have comprehensive product support integrated and optimized for this new processor very early in its lifecycle, giving customers immediate access to Wind River software, development tools and extensive networking components.

SMART NETWORKS DEVELOPER FORUM, NEW ORLEANS, July 22, 2002 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected devices, today announced its plans to support Motorolas first PowerQUICCIII product implementation, the MPC8560 communications processor based upon the Book E PowerPC e500 core (see todays Motorola release, Motorola Expands Communications Processor Leadership with Announcement of the First PowerQUICC III Device). Wind River will support the MPC8560 with its market-leading embedded software and development tools including the VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), Tornado integrated development environment (IDE), standalone hardware bring-up tools and a full complement of networking products and middleware.

The MPC8560 processor is well suited for a number of key Wind River market segments including data networking, storage networking and telecommunications. Through Motorola and Wind Rivers Center of Excellence relationship, Wind River is able to quickly support leading communications processors upon their release with complete, end-to-end solutions for hardware and software development.

Ideal for wired and wireless communications processing tasks, the MPC8560 PowerQUICC III delivers performance headroom for intensive control plane processing tasks and increased forwarding plane bandwidth. Wind Rivers product offering will enable MPC8560 system developers to fully leverage new features and benefits of the processor by providing support for the System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture, including the high performance e500 core, L2 cache, MMU, enhanced communications processor module (CPM), dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, DUART and the PCI-X bus. Wind Rivers Diab C/C++ compiler will support the e500 extended instructions and programmer interface. In addition, Wind River will offer MPC8560 developers with fully integrated on-chip debugging solutions including a hardware reference board as well as the complete range of WindNet networking protocols, WindManage device management components, and networking solution products for switches, routers and access devices.

These products will complement Wind Rivers current support for Motorolas family of processors that implement the PowerPC architecture, including the MPC5xx, MPC6xx, MPC7xx, MPC8xx, MPC74xx, and MPC82xx families. Motorola is the leading provider of communications processors worldwide.

Availability
To enable joint Wind River and Motorola customers to meet their time to market opportunity, the availability of Wind Rivers embedded software and development tools for the MPC8560 will closely follow the availability of the processor itself. Wind River will continue to work closely through the Center of Excellence relationship with Motorola to also support Motorolas MPC8540 processor upon its general introduction to the market.
