Wind River Systems Joins the Eclipse Consortium

Alameda, Calif.--December 1, 2003--Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: WIND), the worldwide market leader in embedded software and services, today announced that it joined the Eclipse Consortium, an open technology tools community. Wind River is the largest embedded software company to join the Eclipse Consortium, which also includes other technology industry leaders such as IBM, HP and more. By joining the Eclipse Consortium, Wind River's goal is to enable global enterprises to standardize embedded development on a single, open standards-based integrated development environment (IDE). Working with other Eclipse members, Wind River is committed to advancing the adoption of open standards and moving the industry toward a connected world where the device, desktop and enterprise meet.

"Wind River will bring more than 20 years of experience and valuable depth of knowledge and expertise to the Eclipse Consortium," said Skip McGaughey, chairperson of the Eclipse Board of Stewards. "Wind River will be a key contributor toward achieving the adoption of open, best in class development technologies in all computing environments."

Wind River's work with Eclipse will focus on the creation of embedded tools and products that are integrated and compatible with the Eclipse open framework and platform. Wind River works with customers in five vertical markets--aerospace & defense, automotive, digital consumer, industrial and network infrastructure--and will work with the Eclipse Consortium to ensure that best in class development technology is made available to developers in each of these markets.

In February, Wind River will further prove its commitment to Eclipse by sponsoring EclipseCon 2004, a technical conference that brings together the Eclipse open source project, community and ecosystem. This conference will focus on open tools development and integration, the history of the Eclipse Consortium and how Eclipse technology evolved, the range of possibilities for embedded development between Eclipse members and much more.

"Now more than ever before, embedded devices and the enterprise are converging to fulfill the promise of a connected world. As such, Wind River is committed to open standards and to ensuring that embedded developers have access to integrated and widely compatible technologies," said Dave Fraser, senior vice president products for Wind River. "The Eclipse Consortium is making an outstanding contribution to the larger technology community, and we are proud to be able to contribute to its cause with our eye on the embedded community."

"By using and contributing to proven Eclipse technologies, Wind River can apply
more of our development resources to value-add for our customers, rather than building technology infrastructures," said Tomas Evensen, senior director core OS and Tools and Eclipse steward for Wind River. "Eclipse's open technology also provides end users with added interoperability, making it possible for them to combine various tools from different vendors."
