Wind River Receives Virtual Private Network Consortium (VPNC) Certification—Illustrates Security Leadership

  • Wind River is the only Device Software Optimization provider to obtain VPNC certification
  • VPNC certification validates the company’s leadership in providing secure software solutions for device and network equipment manufacturers

ALAMEDA, Calif. — December 6, 2004 —Wind River Systems (NASDAQ: WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), today announced that it received certification of its IPsec networking stack from the Virtual Private Network Consortium (VPNC). With VPNC certification and IPsec support throughout all Wind River Platforms, Wind River is the only company that provides a substantially increased level of security at the IP networking level. With a proven, tested and certified IPsec networking stack built into Wind River Platforms, Wind River’s customers can deliver reliable, secure next generation devices.

“As the VPN landscape changes and the technology is becoming more widely adopted, implementing security across multiple levels is absolutely critical to the network infrastructure market,” said Jerry Krasner, Ph.D., Vice President of Embedded Market Forecasters. “Without a truly secure environment, including security at the IP and surrounding levels, future projects can be compromised.”

As VPN technology becomes more widely deployed, network systems are more vulnerable to attack and infrastructure failure. To arm against these vulnerabilities, network manufacturers are taking a more layered approach to address security¾protecting each layer of the network. Wind River’s VPNC certification assures customers that they receive certified, IP level security enhancements that have been tested against leading network solutions.

“Today, Wind River further extended its technology leadership position as we are the only company in the device software marketplace that has received VPNC certification,” said John Bruggeman, chief marketing officer for Wind River. “With the VPNC certification of Wind River’s IPsec, our customers can develop and run device software better, faster, at a lower cost and more reliably while simultaneously ensuring that their next generation products meet the security required by their end-users.”

VPNC is the international trade association for manufacturers in the VPN market. Founded in 1999, the primary purpose of the VPNC is to promote the products of its members to the press and to potential customers, increase interoperability between members by showing where the products interoperate, and serve as the forum for VPN manufacturers and service providers throughout the world. Other companies to have received the VPNC certification range from large to small manufacturers of VPN hardware and software, such as NetGear, Nortel Networks and Juniper Networks.
