ALAMEDA, Calif., May 6, 2002 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected smart devices, today announced that its Tornado for Managed Switches (TMS) software platform now supports IBM's ASO 1.3.1a microcode environment for the IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 Network Processor. The integration of these two products gives networking customers a powerful foundation on which to build advanced networking devices. The product availability is another milestone toward achieving the goals set forth in the Wind River / IBM joint agreement announced in February of last year.

The coupling of Wind River's TMS with IBMs NP4GS3 provides us a quality solution baseline that we can build upon. This technology integration means that we spend more time tackling the issues that differentiate our product. The support and communication with Wind River and IBM has been excellent, commented Jerry Pate, senior vice president of engineering, SVA Networks, Inc.

The IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 network processor is the latest in a suite of network processors and fixed function ASICs to be supported by TMS. Integrated together, TMS and the IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 network processor bring a significant time to market advantage in the development of advanced networking devices used in enterprise and service provider applications. The maturity, stability and flexibility of a commercial software product such as TMS provide significant risk reduction for product entry.

Today's networking customers are demanding complete development and application solutions. IBM has teamed with Wind River to provide OEM customers with the critical tools they need to exploit the capabilities of IBM's network processor and deliver leading-edge networking solutions to the marketplace, said Dr. Armando Garcia, vice president, network processing IBM Microelectronics.
