Wind River's VxWorks Operating System Powers Shanghai Bell Matix2000 Network Access Server

ALAMEDA, Calif., November 6, 2001 — Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected smart devices, today awarded the Matix2000 network access server system from Shanghai Bell Co., Ltd. its "Cool Customer Design" award. To develop this innovative networking infrastructure product, Shanghai Bell utilized a variety of Wind River products including the VxWorks® embedded real-time operating system (RTOS), VxWorks Internet network stack, and Tornado® integrated development environment.

Geared for the future needs of data communications, the Matix2000 network access server provides telecom operators with an integrated high-capacity carrier class solution delivering multiple user accesses and services. It connects multiple dial-up users from a PSTN/ISDN telephony network to a data-centric IP network, facilitating a wide spectrum of IP-based data access services including e-commerce, network education, network medical caring, and home office portals.

The Matix2000 network access server provides a high port density, large capacity, carrier class solution for a wide variety of services and multiple network specifications. It enables easy system expansion with multiple racks, and can flexibly expand up to more than 10,000 ports to build large-scale centralized Internet service providers. The system supports R2, DSS1, and CCS No.7 signals, as well as trunk, local area network (LAN), and wide area network (WAN) interfaces. In addition, the Matix2000 can easily upgrade to support broadband multiple service access platforms, allowing dial-up service, multi-link point-to-point protocol (PPP) service, virtual private dial-up network (VPDN) service, and trunk group aggregation.
