Wind River Accelerates Early Market Adoption of Motorola's MPC8560 PowerQUICC III Processor

Smart Networks Developer Forum, Dallas, March. 24, 2003 — Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: WIND), the worldwide market leader in embedded software and services, today announced that WIND RIVER PLATFORM for Network Equipment will support Motorola's MPC8560 PowerQUICC™ III communications processor based on the Book E PowerPC™ e500™ core. Motorola's PowerQUICC product family is the foundation of a significant number of networking products available today, and the MPC8560 is the third generation of this leading product family. With WIND RIVER PLATFORM for Network Equipment and early availability of development tools, including WIND POWER® IDE, customers will be able to reduce project risk and accelerate the development of advanced, next generation network infrastructure products.

Wind River will add support for the MPC8560 to its integrated embedded platform, WIND RIVER PLATFORM for Network Equipment, which includes the industry's most advanced routing stack, leading VxWorks real-time operating system and Tornado integrated development environment, management, Layer 3 technology and remote access. With this robust platform product, customers can leverage Wind River's extensive tools, integration and networking capabilities immediately, allowing them to focus on building innovative applications that provide significant market advantage.

"Motorola and Wind River have a solid track record of delivering high performance solutions for the data networking and telecommunications markets. A large number of Wind River's networking customers use Motorola's PowerQUICC product lines," said Dave Sheaffer, senior director of alliances for Wind River. "Motorola communications processors, coupled with Wind River's leading technology and market-specific integrated embedded platform, WIND RIVER PLATFORM for Network Equipment, offers customers the foundation they need to speed time to market and build more advanced products."

Today, Wind River enables qualified developers the opportunity to get a jump—start on development for the PowerQUICC III family of communications processors¾ including the MPC8540 and MPC8560¾ by providing compiler and instruction set simulator (ISS) support in the WIND POWER IDE. WIND POWER IDE contains the following components to accelerate development of PowerQUICC code: WIND POWER IDE, WIND POWER ISS and the DIAB C/C++ COMPILER. Based on silicon availability, Wind River will also provide WIND POWER® ICE, Wind River's multi-core JTAG debug solution and hardware reference boards, making the PowerQUICC III available for reference design, further accelerating time to market.

"Motorola is the market share leader in communications processors, and our PowerQUICC III processor family delivers unmatched integration and performance that is ideal for wired and wireless communications," said David Perkins, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Networking and Communications Systems Group. "Through our strong partnership and ongoing support from Wind River, developers can enjoy a well-rounded development platform that can accelerate time-to-market and time-to-money."

These products will complement Wind River's current support for Motorola's family of processors that implement the PowerPC architecture, including the MPC5xx, MPC6xx, MPC7xx, MPC8xx, MPC74xx and MPC82xx families.
