Wind River Extends Professional Services to Support Linux

  • Wind River Professional Services is expanding its services to include support to customers building embedded systems based on the Linux operating system.
  • This decision is another step in Wind River's goal to support embedded developers across both VxWorks and the Linux operating system.

Alameda, Calif.--December 8, 2003--Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: WIND), the worldwide market leader in embedded software and services, today announced that Wind River Professional Services is extending support to its customers developing embedded systems based on the Linux operating system. Following the company's recent announcement of the availability of its visionPROBE II™ tools for Linux, this move is another step in Wind River's goal to support customers developing on Wind River Platforms, its own real-time operating systems, VxWorks®, and on the Linux kernel.

"As the embedded industry continues to evolve and embedded development projects become increasingly complex, Wind River is making very strategic decisions about extending its business to address the true pain points in embedded development," said Dr. Bill Claybrook, research director, grid computing and Linux for Aberdeen Group. "Many companies today are developing across multiple operating systems, and by Wind River expanding its services engagements to include Linux projects, the company is addressing a clear market need."

Wind River Professional Services is one of the largest and most experienced groups in embedded systems development today, having worked with leaders--Siemens, Nortel, Thomson and others--across the company's key vertical markets. With more than 20 years of embedded expertise, Wind River Professional Services' engagement methodology provides a framework for rigorous project management and risk mitigation while it is also built to ensure technical and commercial integrity. This proven methodology, coupled with existing Linux expertise, provides the foundation on which the company can now extend its breadth of engagements to include Linux-based projects.

Wind River Professional Services offers consulting and product realization services for both VxWorks and now Linux. The Services organization maintains a worldwide pool of engineering resources that has experience in projects in the automotive, industrial, aerospace & defense, digital consumer and networking equipment markets.

"Wind River Professional Services has a proven track record of delivering quality and reliability on a wide range of projects that draw on Wind River's own products, as well as many other technologies, including Linux," said Brad Murdoch, vice president and general manager for Wind River Professional Services. "Over the years, our experience across the broad range of embedded projects has influenced the direction of our business and our R&D investment. Today, that experience opens the doors for our services team to better address the needs of the growing embedded Linux community."
