Studio Developer 24.11
Version 24.11 highlights: Workspace provisioning, bring-your-own simulation modeling, and cloud cost monitoring
Wind River® is excited to release Studio Developer 24.11 to help users create the next generation of intelligent edge systems. This version focuses on three key areas:
- Increasing productivity for development and testing teams
- Speeding up development cycles
- Helping users understand costs and better control them
INCREASING TEAM PRODUCTIVITY
Onboarding developers and testers can require days of effort. They have to install their new software, configure tools and connections, and settle into their new workstations. After all that work, those developers and testers often have slightly different configurations that complicate later troubleshooting. Problems may reproduce on some machines and not others, creating uncertainty during debugging.
Wind River Studio Workspace, a new Studio Developer module, addresses that frustration. It streamlines development environment provisioning and configuration by enabling instant, on-demand creation of secure, fully configured workspaces in public or private cloud infrastructures.

Because the development environments are based on standardized configurations, developers and testers onboard faster with better security — which is especially valuable when new people are coming up to speed. Everyone benefits from more efficient development while avoiding “It works on my machine!” scenarios.

Studio Developer adds more features for DevSecOps in this release, too, primarily to serve team roles. In version 24.11, you can customize the links and tools on user landing pages so you see the tools and resources you call on most often.
Nobody wants to waste time switching tools to pass data along or translate data and results. For software testers, Studio Developer 24.11 automates coordination between Wind River Studio Test Automation and repositories of Python test cases managed by external tools or teams.

ACCELERATING DEVELOPMENT CYCLES
Embedded development teams often encounter schedule disruptions because of hardware development delays. Wind River Studio Virtual Lab sidesteps such disruptions by providing access to simulated devices. That lets software teams test applications before the hardware is available.
Studio Developer 24.11 adds support for bring-your-own QEMU simulation models, so that developers can use models they create in-house without requiring help from Wind River Professional Services. This allows testing to take place earlier and with more depth, reducing late-stage surprises.
We also added more scripting and automation points in Test Automation workflows. You get more flexibility, while reducing complexity and maintenance effort.
CONTROLLING COSTS
You need information to help make better decisions, especially those that affect finances. Limited financial visibility impedes cost management. However, cost visibility is rarely more than an afterthought, particularly for tools built in-house or using open source components. By the time cost is a concern, adding visibility is disruptive to the team’s project.
The Studio Developer 24.11 release expands features to tag development resources. Teams better understand where their spending is going and can manage expenditures.
