Wind River Enhances On-Chip Device Debugging Solutions to Address Growing Complexities in Multicore and Linux Device Development

New Upgrades and Support Offer Customers a Comprehensive Solution for Expediting Product’s Time-to-Market

Embedded Systems Conference, San Jose, CA – April 2, 2007 – Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), today announced enhancements to Wind River Workbench® 2.6.1On-Chip Debugging Edition, the company’s comprehensive device software development toolset for mitigating the complexities of on-chip debugging. The upgraded Wind River Workbench, OCD Edition, provides a development toolset that does not require kernel instrumentation to debug the Linux kernel and user applications, and will also offer multicore device developers a more fully supported, standards-based development environment.

"Wind River understands the unique and often times, frustrating difficulties device developers face when debugging 32-bit and 64-bit device projects," said Sandy Orlando, Vice President and General Manager of Wind River On-Chip Debugging. "With the newly upgraded Workbench toolset for on-chip debugging, Wind River will offer customers a rich set of Eclipse-based development tools that allow them to harness the full advantages today's hardware innovations offer, including multicore and multiprocessing technologies."

Workbench 2.6.1, OCD Edition Enhancements:

"Two essential elements that enable developers to fully harness the performance benefits of multicore technologies are quality tools and well-designed devices," said Jeff Timbs, marketing director for Freescale Semiconductor's Networking Systems Division. "Wind River's ICE solution and Workbench for On-Chip Debugging multicore development are quality tools that speed and simplify the creation of world class products based on advanced multicore platforms from Freescale, including our MPC8641D and MCP8572 chips."

New Workbench Eclipse Plug-In "View" Features:

"The new 'View' features and enhanced capabilities in Wind River Workbench for On-Chip Debugging helped us to develop our multicore processor boards faster and more efficiently," said Lynn Patterson, Vice President and General Manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing's Modular Solutions group. "By utilizing Workbench OCD, we saved valuable development time and resources while still providing seamless support for our operating system and application layer requirements. As developers migrate to the new multicore system-on-a-chip (SOC) platforms, they will need a comprehensive tool set that provides them with the ability to not only develop the software that will run on these complex platforms, but also delivers robust defect resolution capabilities."
