Dot21's real-time middleware has been proven by the military in complex, multiprocessor platforms with years of deployment. It is highly suited to applications such as radar systems, medical imaging, data acquisition, and signal processing. The publish/subscribe API decouples distributed applications, thereby simplifying system design. Applications simply subscribe to the information they need and publish their results. In addition, communications are independent of the underlying media (Ethernet, VMEbus). The application developer no longer needs to write socket code. For those designers contemplating multiprocessing on VMEbus, Dot21's middleware implementation is highly optimized with all data transfers utilizing DMA. Many signal processing applications will find VMEbus throughput sufficient and high-cost crossbar interconnects unnecessary.
