Applied Micro Circuits Corp.Applied Micro Circuits applies most of its microchip expertise to communications, but also does more than a micro business in storage. The company develops low-powered integrated circuits for computing (based on IBM's Power Architecture) and connectivity applications. Its embedded computing, server processing, packet processing, and cell switching products are used in equipment such as wireless base stations, blade servers, gateways, printers, routers, and more. The now-fabless semiconductor company outsources manufacturing to IBM Microelectronics, TSMC, and UMC. Its top customers include Avnet (20% of sales), Wintec (20%), and Flextronics (11%). AppliedMicro gets about two-thirds of its sales outside the US.
