- Toshiba is using Wind River Simics to develop application software for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on image recognition SoCs.
- The addition of Simics technology provides Toshiba and its customers with the power of an accelerated software development platform.
- Simics demonstrated more than double the performance over Toshiba’s previous simulation solution.
ALAMEDA, Calif. — April 14, 2014 — Wind River®, a world leader in delivering software for intelligent connected systems, announced that Toshiba is using Wind River Simics® to develop automotive application software on image recognition system-on-chip (SoC) platforms. Providing full system simulation and breakthrough development techniques, the added Simics capabilities can help Toshiba’s automotive customers increase their productivity by transforming their software development processes to be faster and more efficient.
The Toshiba image recognition SoCs, the TMPV75 Series, are applicable to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with automotive video cameras. These SoCs can process image data captured from multiple cameras to detect and recognize objects and their motions in order to assist or alert drivers.
As the automobile becomes more sophisticated and connected, the requirements of automotive devices become increasingly complex as well. As a result, software development for automotive devices is at greater risk for delays. The ability to realize savings during development and testing cycles is a significant advantage. As a full system simulator, Simics provides the power to simulate any type of system and anticipate roadblocks sooner than ever, or easily test and solve difficult debugging challenges. By using Simics, customers can speed their simulations and gain new flexibilities to minimize risk and potential rises in cost during the development process.
"Given the complicated nature of advanced automotive applications, there are many risks that could slow the development process. Additionally, the role of software is increasing in the automotive environment, which adds to this complexity," said Kazuteru Saginao, assistant to general manager, technical marketing division, Electronic Devices & Storage Sales Center at Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor & Storage Products Company. "Wind River Simics provides the power to get ahead of development challenges. Also, Wind River’s long history and expertise in the automotive market provided us with an additional layer of confidence."
"As automotive capabilities become richer, the importance of software will continue to grow. Software has become a key element in nearly every embedded system. When serving the complex automotive market, the ability to gain new efficiencies and speed is a competitive advantage. Wind River Simics can provide customers like Toshiba with powerful capabilities to transform and accelerate their development," said Michel Genard, vice president and general manager of Simics at Wind River. "And by using Simics to develop, test, and overcome problems much sooner in the development cycle, Toshiba's customers also can get to market faster, create higher quality code, and stay in control of costs."
Simics can help teams change their approach to development, pinpoint and address problems faster, and deliver a high-quality product to market more quickly. With Simics, testing and debugging can take place much earlier and become more efficient due to unique techniques such as fault injection, inspection of any element within the system, and precise and repeatable reverse execution. Simics also improves efficiency and collaboration across hardware, software, and QA teams regardless of their location by providing shared access to a full system simulation, snapshot functionality, and greater visibility, helping all teammates stay on the same page.
