VxWorks Unified BSP for IA Evaluation
This evaluation version of the VxWorks® Unified BSP for IA supports most Intel® platforms and will allow you to test-drive VxWorks on your Intel platform. This pre-built image will boot on your Intel platform using a USB storage device that you provide. Below are detailed instructions for building your own bootable VxWorks Unified BSP evaluation stick.
To build your bootable VxWorks Unified BSP image* you will need the following:
1 GB USB memory stick
USB or PS2 keyboard
Ethernet connectivity is optional.
Follow the detailed instructions in the included readme files.
*These images can also boot on a commercial laptop computer.
Bootable USB setup instructions
Step 1) Download the syslinux-vxboot-basic 20130506.zip file.
Step 2) Download the syslinux-4.04-tools.zip file to a temporary directory.
Step 3) Extract the syslinux-vxboot-basic 20130506.zip contents to the USB stick with an FAT32 partition.
Step 4) Unzip syslinux-4.04-tools.zip to a temporary location on the host computer to provide access to the "make bootable” utilities (syslinux.exe, etc.).
A) For Windows: Open a cmd window and run syslinux.exe (for 32-bit Windows) or syslinux64.exe (for 64-bit Windows). If you use Win7, launch the cmd shell (Programs > Accessories > Command) with admin privilege by right clicking the cmd shell shortcut and selecting Run as Administrator:
syslinux.exe -fia drive:
Where “drive:" is the drive letter of the FAT32 formatted USB memory drive.
B) For Linux (in this example scenario, the USB stick is /dev/sdb and the FAT32 partition is /dev/sdb1):
Perform the following:
# syslinux -fi /dev/sdb1
# dd if=mbr.bin of=/dev/sdb
NOTE: If the FAT32 partition is not already bootable, make it bootable by using tools such as gparted, parted, or fdisk.
Step 6) Insert and boot the USB stick on the Intel target. The Unified BSP image will default to your selected configuration. You will see the VxWorks prompt if successful. If the system does not boot, the auto boot sequence can be interrupted and the boot image changed with the UP/DOWN arrow keys, allowing you to select a different image.
