RMI XLR Processor Family (6221)
First Thread Processor Optimized for Connected Computing
Product Highlights
Single-chip, general purpose replacement for cumbersome mix of proprietary NPUs, ASICs and co-processors Throughput-optimized, multithreaded XLR-enhanced MIPS64 cores with up to 32 threads (virtual CPUs) provide platform versatility and efficiency Scalable multiprocessing architecture delivers high performance secure networking, content and services processing Leading edge general purpose design and true C/C++ programming environment enables rapid application development and leverages widely available, well understood development tools Up to 10 Gbps security acceleration of DES / 3DES, AES, ARC4, SHA-1, MD5, RSA / DH for in-line IPSec, SSL, and other security processing Autonomous Acceleration Engines are independent Network interface and security accelerators allowing efficient packet traffic and cryptographic operations without burdening the MIPS64 cores. Extensive integration, including flexible 1 to 10G networking I/O, Hyper- Transport, PCI-X, and configurable dual memory controllers, simplifies design and lowers cost, power and PCB real estate
Product Description
As connected computing solutions such as content-aware networking, multiservice Firewall / VPN / IDS systems, and new forms of storage management continue to converge, the need for flexible and cost-effective processing is rapidly increasing. Todays system designs, which are based on a growing mix of semi-programmable ASICs, NPUs and co-processors, have created a hardware and software environment that is increasingly complex, expensive and difficult to scale. The solution lies in throughput-optimized general purpose thread processing with intelligent system and functional integration which, until now, has been unavailable. RMIs family of XLR Processors combines the power of its innovative multiprocessing, multithreaded architecture with the simplicity of a XLR enhanced leading edge, general purpose MIPS64® machine enabling secure wire speed, software-driven applications across multiple platforms. As a true programmable SuperSOC solution, the XLR Processor eliminates the need for microcoding or proprietary scripting. In addition, its industry-standard media interfaces provide an extensive set of connectivity options. The XLR Processor family is a cost-effective, single-chip solution providing a key building block for next-generation, scalable multiservice systems.
