Many engineers assume that Java is just too big, too slow, and too unpredictable for hard real-time or deeply embedded applications. Generally, this assumption is correct. However, with PERC Pico, the traditional Java barriers no longer apply. PERC Pico is the fastest and smallest virtual machine environment available, with benchmarking performance comparable to or even faster than C and C++ solutions, more than 3 times faster than other optimized Java solutiosn, and with response latencies in the low microsecond range. Memory management is completely automated and yet predictable, following the design guidelines in the proposed safety critical RTSJ profile.



PERC Pico is fully interoperable with PERC Ultra in the VxWorks environment, providing the unique combination of high-level functionality needed for complex applications, along with extreme performance needed for hard real-time components. This fully eliminates the need to use C/C++, allowing all-Java code to be used and avoiding inefficient JNI language connectivity.
