The Integrated Workbench Ada Solution

The SCORE® plug-in for Wind River Workbench provides mixed-language support (Ada, C and Embedded C++), targeting both downloadable kernel modules and real time process projects for VxWorks on Intel 80x86 (including VxSim) and PowerPC processors. Set-up is simple; just add the SCORE Eclipse Plugin as a feature in Wind River Workbench, and all the capabilities of the SCORE development environment become accessible through the Wind River's Project Management View. These tools include DDC-I's Ada 95 compiler and linker, library management tools, and various aid tools that dump the contents of object files to text files. The integration is seamless; DDC-I's tools are run and the results presented back to the user without having to change environments or open another window.



Compiling a set of Ada files has always presented problems for users. The order of compilation is critical and while compiling a body before a specification can be a nuisance, recompiling the specification invalidates previously compiled files, resulting in a lot of duplicate effort. SCORE will automatically parse each file in the set, and then fully compile the files in a valid order, eliminating the frustration associated with wrong compilation orders. Similarly, the build process will ensure that changed and invalidated files are compiled efficiently. This task may be automated and pushed to the background; so that the entire project can be kept compiled each time a file is saved.



Compilation options may be attached hierarchically to each file, folder, or project. These are set through property pages that are associated with each file; when that file is compiled the properties are retrieved and passed to the compiler. Any errors or warnings reported by the compiler are translated into problem markers and attached to the source file, from where they will be displayed to the user in the problems view or as decorations to the file when it is displayed in the editor. Link options may be attached to the project in the same way.



SCORE is also integrated with the Wind River debugger, allowing source level debugging of Ada 95 code, C code, and Embedded C++ code from within Workbench, switching seamlessly between the languages.
