The FibreXtreme(R) Serial FPDP Data Link System is a dedicated, point-to-point or broadcast data link designed for the high-throughput requirements of advanced DSP and imaging systems. Typical applications include radar and sonar, target recognition, surveillance, medical imaging, and other real-time sensor-to-DSP applications.
Two product series are available. The SL100 series offers a baud rate of 1.062Gb/sec. and sustained data throughputs of 105MB/sec. The SL240 series features a baud rate of 2.5Gb/sec. and sustained data throughputs of 247MB/sec. Low overhead results in 99 percent bandwidth utilization.
The FibreXtreme Serial FPDP protocol is based on the existing front panel data port (FPDP) standard. FPDP was specifically invented to address the high-speed connection between the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) of a sensor subsystem and the DSP subsystem. Although FPDP provides the simplicity, bandwidth, and reliability required by these systems, its maximum connection distance is limited to only one meter. FibreXtreme data links bring new design flexibility to these DSP systems by extending the FPDP connection up to 10 kilometers, while retaining its simplicity, bandwidth, and reliability.
