ALAMEDA, Calif., May 14, 2001 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: WIND), a leading provider of software and services for smart connected devices, today announced that it has been selected as a Networking Solutions
Center for Intel Corporation to help accelerate and optimize the development of networked devices. The initial focus will be on the Intel® IXP1200 Network Processor, but will expand in the future to include other processors from Intel. This center will develop projects based on Wind River and Intel technology for original equipment manufacturers in the telecommunications market segment. The new networking-focused development team expands Wind River's existing microcode development efforts.
A key offering from the center will be the development, customization, and integration of microcode for Intel's IXP1200 Network Processor, enabling the creation of a wide range of highly efficient switching, routing, and protocol translation functions that complement and extend the native code networking stack of communications products. The center will also provide porting and customization of vertically tailored Wind River products, including Tornado® for Managed Switches and Tornado for Home Gateways, to Intel networking processors.
