ALAMEDA, Calif., October 3, 2001 -- Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected smart devices, announced that it has filed suit against Green Hills Software, Inc. for patent infringement. The suit was filed in the Federal District Court for the District of Delaware and alleges that Green Hills is infringing Wind River's U.S. Patent Number 5,872,909 (the "Wilner '909 patent") as a result of Green Hills' use, distribution and marketing of its MULTI and EventAnalyzer products. The suit seeks damages and injunctive relief.
Wind River uses the technology of the Wilner '909 patent in its WindView® software analyzer product. The WindView product is a sophisticated visualization tool tailored to the demanding requirements of real-time embedded systems development. Using WindView, developers can dynamically view and monitor the performance of software running on a target system, allowing the developer to understand the interactions between tasks, interrupts and system objects executing on the target. Developers using WindView can reduce overall development time and improve software quality.
"Wind River invests millions of dollars each year in research and development to create new and innovative products that bring significant value to our customers," said John Fogelin, chief technical officer and vice president, general manager of Wind River Platforms business unit. "Those products and the intellectual property they contain are the cornerstone of our business and are significant assets which we will protect against infringement."
