Wind River made two major product announcements in the first quarter of 2014:

Wind River Reinvents the Real-Time Operating System

VxWorks® 7, a major new release of the world's most widely deployed real-time operating system (RTOS), was introduced at Embedded World last month. VxWorks has been re-architected into a modular and scalable platform for a wide range of connected devices, from consumer wearables to large networking equipment, to enable customers to leverage the opportunities created by the Internet of Things (IoT). VxWorks 7 also delivers a comprehensive set of security and safety features, enhanced connectivity, graphics, and storage capabilities, and the new Wind River Workbench 4 development suite. The announcement was positioned in one article as one of the "five trends from Embedded World." Read more in the selection of articles below:

Virtualization Without Compromise

Wind River Carrier Grade Communications Server, the industry’s first commercial carrier grade fully integrated and virtualized software platform, was unveiled at Mobile World Congress last month. The solution is designed specifically for network functions virtualization (NFV) deployment and seamlessly integrates with existing networks. As one article framed it, the announcement was one of the “NFV moves that stole the show.” Wind River also announced a partnership with HP to enable a new generation of carrier grade, NFV-ready servers for the evolving telecommunications market.

WHITE PAPERS

The RTOS as the Engine for the Internet of Things

The majority of the "things" in IoT are embedded systems, many of which are running a real-time operating system (RTOS). This paper outlines the critical characteristics an RTOS must have in order to meet the specific challenges and realize the enormous opportunities of IoT.
