Wind River Partners with Oxford Semiconductor for Device Networking Solutions
|
February 13, 2007 – Wind River, the global leader in Device Software Optimisation (DSO), today announced that Oxford Semiconductor, a leading provider of high-performance connectivity solutions, has joined Wind River's Partner Alliance programme and will bundle evaluation copies of Wind River Platform for Consumer Devices, Linux Edition, the company's Carrier-Grade Linux device software platform, with Oxford's first network connectivity controller. Creating a completely integrated connectivity platform for device networking products, the Wind River enabled OXETHU954 incorporates an embedded ARM9 processor and provides Ethernet, PCI, USB2.0 and UART connectivity in a single package. Greatly simplifying the design of device networking products in factory automation, point-of-sale and building management applications, the chip's comprehensive software development kit will also carry an evaluation copy of Wind River® Workbench, a comprehensive set of Eclipse-based development tools. Wind River's Workbench tools will help device manufacturers focus on building differentiated device applications, understand and test complex projects and accelerate time-to-market by leveraging the deeply instrumented middleware technology in both VxWorks and Wind River Linux platforms. Workbench 2.6 delivers device software tools in a standards-based Eclipse development environment that ensures higher-quality products, improved kernel and middleware insight, and higher productivity. Optimised for device software development across the entire product lifecycle, the latest version of Workbench offers knowledge-sharing facilities and a unique set of diagnostic tools to rapidly test and repair running systems. "Oxford Semiconductor has a worldwide reputation for creating innovative high performance connectivity solutions and it's a pleasure to have the company as a partner," said Glenn Seiler, senior manager for Linux Platforms at Wind River. "We share a common philosophy in providing designers with a complete development environment that helps bring-up hardware quickly and reduces time-to-market. "In developing our first network connectivity controller, the stability and reliability of the operating system was a key design criteria and Wind River Linux provided the best solution by far," said Adrian Braine, Oxford Semiconductor's Marketing Manager of Connectivity Solutions. "As a Wind River Partner, we are excited about the prospect of working together in the future to further enhance the customer design-in experience." Workbench 2.6
