Wind River wins “Best of Show” at RTS Embedded Systems 2004

London, Mar 31 2004 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: WIND), the global leader in device software optimisation (DSO), today announced that it took top honours at the RTS Embedded Systems show in Paris, France, winning the “Best of Show” award for Wind River Workbench, former known as WindPower IDE 2.0. Wind River Workbench is the company’s next generation, Eclipse-based integrated development environment (IDE) which will offer support for both VxWorks® and Linux - the standards in device software optimisation.

Winners of the RTS “Best of Show” award were chosen by conference attendees, which included companies building device software for the industrial, automotive & transportation, aerospace & defence and telecom markets. Wind River also won “Best of Show” at the RTS Embedded Systems conference last year for its submission of Wind River Platforms – Wind River’s tightly integrated, industry-specific set of technologies and tools designed to help customers optimise their device software development.

"The RTS show attendees were highly motivated this year and looking for innovative solutions and new industry standards. We are delighted that our new product portfolio in support of Linux and VxWorks grabbed their attention,” said Federico De Sario, Regional Director South Western Europe at Wind River. “The Wind River Workbench clearly offers customers a compelling solution for standardising device software development across both VxWorks and Linux, and we are thrilled to accept this award from the RTS conference and its attendees.”

At Electronica USA Embedded Systems Conference, Wind River’s device software that powers NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Mars Exploration Rovers – Spirit and Opportunity – won the overall “Best of Show” award, as well as the best aerospace and defense product. The Weather Channel’s Intellistar won “Best of Show” within the communications category. Wind River enabled its customers - NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and The Weather Channel – to develop and run the software that powers their respective devices faster, better, at a lower cost and more reliably.
