Wind River Platform For Safety Critical ARINC 653
Wind River Platform for Safety Critical ARINC 653 delivers the stringent foundation aerospace and defense companies need to address the safety and security needs of mission-critical applications, as well as the portability and reusability requirements of noncritical applications. The platform offers complete ARINC 653-1 compliance and DO-178B certification evidence, and is backed by Wind River's 20+ years of device software experience, a broad network of hardware and software partners, a world-class support organization, and a specialized professional services team.
Key features and functionality include:
- ARINC 653 API Conformance: Platform for Safety Critical offers complete ARINC 653-1 conformance and supports C and C++. Ada is supported through partners. Applications can be written to VxWorks, ARINC, or POSIX APIs. The partition-level operating system (POS) varies for different certification levels and adaptation of legacy operating systems, enabling the OS to run existing code with little change.
- Wind River Workbench: An integrated development suite based on the Eclipse framework, Workbench provides deep capabilities that support the entire development lifecycle, from hardware bring-up to platform and application development, and enables standardization on one common development suite across the enterprise. Workbench is extensible and scalable, allowing aerospace and defense suppliers to meet specific project needs, and it can seamlessly integrate hundreds of third-party plug-ins.
- XML Configuration Tool Suite: Platform for Safety Critical includes an XML-based utility to configure all ARINC 653 run-time objects (partitions, ports, health monitoring, etc.). The XML-to-binary compiler is qualified as a development tool under DO-178B guidelines. This qualified XML compiler ensures tabular partition configuration data is generated in binary format correctly, and provides for independent development, testing, certification, and recertification of individual applications in an Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) system. The utility delivers a fully separated, plug-and-play approach to software and systems changes that supports the independent supplier roles of platform provider, system integrator, and applications developer, as required by the DO-297 IMA Development Guidance and Certification Issues document, reducing initial development and certification time and cost, as well as change and maintenance costs later in the development process.
- DO-178B Level A Certification Evidence: Wind River A&D product offerings include all required documentation and artifacts to support DO-178B Level A, B, C, and D certifications. Certification evidence is delivered as a complete package on DVD in an advanced hyperlinked format for easy navigation and traceability, easing the time and expense required by certification authorities. This packaging of certification artifacts can also be used as a basis for IEC 61508 and FDA 510 (k) device certifications, serving all SIL and medical device class levels.
- Extensive Partner Technologies: To ensure a complete range of integrated technologies, Wind River has established the DSO industry's widest-ranging partner ecosystem, joining forces with leading hardware and software providers to address such technologies as COTS boards, specialized compilers, certification services, and platform simulation applications.
- Education Credits: Platform for Safety Critical includes credits that can be used to fund education courses for project personnel, ensuring that product development gets off to a quick start and stays on schedule.
