Smiths needed to find a device software partner to help build out the common core system - the backbone of the airplane's computers, networks and interfacing electronics - for the Boeing 787.

The device software needed to be interoperable, flexible and reliable in order to meet security and safety requirements.
Smiths Aerospace selected Wind River Platform for Safety Critical ARINC.

Wind River Platform for Safety Critical ARINC 653, part of Wind River's Safe and Secure Program, is designed to provide fully integrated device software platforms that meet the stringent safety certifications required by the FAA.
The 787 Common Core System will be comprised of extremely complex device software with 80 to 100 applications running simultaneously.

Smiths and Wind River provided the technology and expertise Boeing requires for this next generation airplane.

Wind River's device software will help reduce costs, size, and power consumption for the 787.
