Wind River Joins Consumer Electronics Linux Forum (CELF)

Embedded Systems Leader to Demonstrate Debug Tool for Linux and VxWorks at Consumer Electronics Show 2004, Las Vegas

Tel-Aviv, Jan 12 2004 - Wind River Systems [Nasdaq: WIND], the worldwide market leader in embedded software and services, today announced that it has joined the CE Linux Forum (CELF), an industry group focused on the advancement of Linux as an open source platform for consumer electronics devices. Current members include Sony, Philips, Panasonic and other consumer electronics leaders. Wind River will showcase its leading embedded technologies for consumer devices, including its debug solution for Linux, at the Consumer Electronics Show in the Las Vegas Convention Centre January 8-11 in the South Hall Meeting Room #20747.

“Wind River’s success in the real-time embedded space will bring a new level of expertise to CELF,” said Bill Claybrook, research director, Linux and grid computing, Aberdeen Group. “The decision to join CELF is in line with Wind River’s recent moves to support Linux, and I see the membership as a solid move that will further establish Wind River in the embedded Linux market.”

“Wind River is proud to participate in CELF as a way to continue driving open standards to meet our customers’ growing demand for Linux in the digital consumer space,” said Dave Fraser, senior vice president of products, Wind River. “As the world’s largest embedded software company, we bring proven real-time embedded solutions with reliable support and services to the table. Through our involvement with CELF, we hope to make Linux a more robust, dependable technology for use in consumer electronics devices.”

The majority of the world’s leading consumer electronics manufacturers, including Philips, Samsung, Motorola and others, use Wind River’s Platform for Consumer Devices — a market specific, integrated embedded platform — to help them quickly and cost-effectively build innovative products such as digital set-top boxes, broadband-enabled multimedia gateways and more. As Linux gains momentum with consumer electronics manufacturers, Wind River will work with CELF to ensure the company’s products meet the ongoing needs of its customers, including the co-existence of VxWorks and Linux.

Today’s announcement also follows on the heels of a string of Linux related announcements from Wind River. In an effort to increase support for Linux across all five of the company’s vertical markets — digital consumer, network infrastructure, industrial, automotive and aerospace and defence — Wind River recently announced availability of its visionPROBE II™ tools for Linux, membership in the Eclipse consortium and Open Source Development Labs, and the extension of professional services support to customers developing on the Linux operating system. Membership in CELF is yet another step toward Wind River's goal to support customers developing on Wind River Platforms, its own real-time operating system, VxWorks®, and on the Linux kernel.
