Panel Discussions

June 18, 2012: 1 p.m.–3 p.m.

Using Software Platforms to Take Advantage of the Multi-core Trend for ARM and Power Architecture Technologies

Wind River's Vice President of Tools and
Life Cycle Solutions Michel Genard will participate in a panel of industry experts discussing multi-core technology: the trends, the integration challenges, and the open-source and proprietary technologies that can ease the transition to multi-core or accelerate existing projects.

June 18, 2012: 3:15 p.m.–5:15 p.m.

Speed Time-to-Market with Virtualization

Wind River's Senior Director of Safe and Secure Platforms Joe Wlad will participate in a panel of industry experts discussing the trends, challenges, and solutions for using embedded virtualization technology to accelerate multi-core projects while ensuring the portability of legacy systems and maintaining security for next-generation designs.

Wind River Sessions

June 19, 2012: 4:15 p.m.–5:15 p.m.

Safe and Secure Partitioning Platforms Using Freescale Technology

Joe Wlad, Senior Director,
Safe and Secure Platforms

Key technological shifts have enabled and fostered the evolution of safe and secure platforms from single-core, single-application, single-criticality architectures to the current multi-core, multiple-application, and multiple-criticality architectures. The virtualization capabilities of Freescale's QorIQ line are the foundation of these new architectures. We will give an overview of virtualization and describe how Wind River's safe and secure partitioning platforms make use of virtualization to enable customers to build and deploy applications meeting the highest standards of safety and security, including applications with mixed levels of criticality. The current standards for safety and security will be described, as well as the partitioning features that provide developers with a robust and flexible foundation on which to build safe and secure applications.

June 19, 2012: 5:15 p.m.–6:15 p.m.

Improving Security in Embedded Systems

Felix Baum, Senior Product Manager
Security is a top priority for more than just military and aerospace markets; system breaches can be economically devastating and even life threatening. Developers creating these systems need to consider security early in the product life cycle and take a holistic approach to protecting their systems. In this session we present a set of security best practices that form a foundation for good design using a combined top-down and bottom-up approach. We also provide practical advice on how to implement these practices. You will learn how to use the features of Freescale processors and the capabilities of Wind River's VxWorks RTOS to secure the boot process, ensure that both kernel and application are trustworthy, lock down the networking stack, and prevent data in flight from being accessed.

June 20, 2012: 2 p.m.–3 p.m.

Hardened Android for Secure Mobile Communications

Tim Skutt, Solutions Architect
Securing commercial Android platforms for security-sensitive arenas such as health care, intelligence, and the battlefield requires advanced embedded device strategies to minimize cyber attacks and protect mission-critical communications. In this session, you will learn about specific use cases for secure Android devices as well as the most recent advancements for securing Android. The discussion will include an in-depth assessment of the threat coverage and remaining security gaps in the National Security Agency's Security Enhanced (SE) Android. We will then illustrate robust mobile architectures leveraging Freescale's i.MX family of application processors with Wind River's secure Android solutions, which support SE Android with enhanced capabilities and test platforms to accelerate secure mobile communication strategies.
